Men – Pinterest Wants You!

Since day 1 Pinterest’s user base has been predominantly female and this worked for a while, however now Pinterest is looking to expand its search functionality to showcase more topics that they believe will appeal to men. That being said Pinterest has quiet the challenge ahead of them, since according to a comScore survey of Pinterest’s user base, approximately 71 percent of Pinterest’s 72.5 million visitors in the month of December 2014 were female.

With Pinterests’ promoted pins feature advertisers don’t want to miss out and that makes sense. So Pinterest will begin making some subtle changes to search functionality. For example, in the food/cooking category Pinterest will start displaying more results for items such as tacos and pizzas alongside baked goods and family meals.

For example, say you’re looking for a new watch. Before when you searched Pinterest for “watches,” your results would include mostly women’s timepieces. But now, men will see Pins and guides inspired by what other guys have Pinned, and everybody’s results should feel a lot closer to what they’re looking for. Of course if you ever want results for another gender, like if you’re shopping for a gift for someone else, you can always use the guides to fine-tune your search.
