Let’s face it – most webmasters, techies, geeks, and gamers aren’t using a resolution of 1366 x 768 unless they absolutely have to – and yet after digging into the StatCounter charts from 2014 it seems that the resolution of 1366 x 768 is by far the most popular with 19.22% of users on it when factoring in all devices across the world. If we narrow things down further to only desktops we end up with a whopping 29.5% of users worldwide using 1366 x 768 – with 1920 x 1080 coming in at just 10.17%.
What makes things even more surprising is that 1024 x 768 comes in 3rd place in terms of popularity with a 9.73% share of worldwide desktop users – even though Windows 8 barely supports it these days. Comparing these numbers to those from 2013 we do see that people have definitely started making the move up to higher resolution displays since back in 2013 the 1920 x 1080 resolution size only held a 7.82% market share with 1024 x 768 at 15.21%.
So while I know some of you have been running high resolution monitors for years now – the rest of the world is still slowly catching up.
