Facebook announced last night an upcoming change to Facebook Page’s like counts as they work on removing memorialized and voluntarily deactivated accounts. Over the next few weeks don’t be alarmed if you see a decrease in the number of Page likes you have – since any of the likes that have been removed were already inactive members who weren’t interacting with your page, or any page on Facebook for that matter.
Removing inactive Facebook accounts from Page audience data gives businesses up-to-date insights on the people who actively follow their Page and makes it easier for businesses to find people like their followers through tools like lookalike audiences.
In the future any Facebook account that gets deactivated will automatically be removed from the like count of any pages that account has liked. If that account ever gets reactivated it will automatically be re-added to a Page’s like count.
