Matt Cutts has recently announced that Google will be rolling out a “small” algorithm change that will “reduce low-quality ‘exact-match’ domains” from showing up so highly in the search results.

So what exactly does this mean? Well let’s assume you sell cheap Pirelli tires, and you own the domain name www.cheappirellitires.com – this would be an exact-match domain – and chances are you’ll be ranking fairly high up there whenever anything searches for “Cheap Pirelli Tires”.

However what if all you have going for you is that domain name? Assuming your content doesn’t focus on those 3 keywords, and you’ve done no other SEO work. Based on the new algo change your site might loose some ranking points if Google deems it to be “low-quality”. Really this is why you should always put some focus into basic search engine optimization for your website. Don’t just rely on a good ranking because you have a domain name full of the right keywords. Put those keywords into your H1 and H2 tags, right relevant content that includes those keywords; and generate back-links with those keywords as the anchor text.

If you don’t know where to start – shoot on over and request an SEO website analysis, which I offer completely free of charge. This will provide you with tons of information as to where which keywords can and should be placed, along with a listing of what exactly your competitors are doing on their site, and where their keywords are going.
