The Google Web Search API was something I kind of grew up with, so it’s with a sad heart that I must say that Google has finally set a date in stone for when to pull the plug. To be honest this doesn’t come as a surprise really since Google first announced the deprecation of the Web Search API back in November 2010 – so they’ve kept it up and alive for quiet a while now considering Google’s official stance is to support an API for 3 years after it’s been deprecated.

For those of you who’ve never used the Google Web Search API – this was essentially a Javascript library that allowed you to harness the power of the Google search engine and embed it within your own website – before Google developed things like the Google Custom Search Engine.

That said, Google is officially retiring the Web Search API on September 20th, 2014. Farewell old friend.
