Google Penguin is the codename for a Google algorithm update that was first announced back in 2012 and was aimed at decreasing the search engine rankings of websites that have violated the Google Webmaster Quality Guidelines through the use of black-hat SEO tactics and back-link manipulation. In 2013 we say version 2.0 of Google Penguin roll out, and over the course of this past weekend Google has started to roll out Penguin 3.0.

The roll-out is going to happen slowly over the next couple of weeks, and won’t be a one-time deal – so keep an eye out on your Google Analytics over these next few weeks and see what’s happening.
