When it comes to trying to get someone to do something online – making that action as simple as possible is key. So when you’re shopping online and come to your checkout process and are suddenly hit with a long full-page form things aren’t simple anymore are they? Things get even worse when you finally register, then have to confirm your email address, and only then can you get back to what you wanted to buy – assuming you still remember what that was.

Let’s take another situation. A year ago you bought something from XYZ website – and since then they send you monthly newsletters with various specials and promotions. Something catches you’re eye and you click to buy – BUT – you have no idea what you’re login is anymore.

There’s an easy solution here: social logins. Based on research cited by James Temperton in a recent Wired article, social logins help improve registration conversion by as much as 50%. When testing on more complex payment systems only 66% of shoppers complete their transaction, with those with social logins completing up to 82% of transactions. Things get even better though:

Simpler payment processes and social logins also increase how much people spend and how long they spend browsing for products. Social logins increase registration conversion rates by up to 50 percent, while users browse for three times longer too.

So if there’s one thing you’re planning to do this holiday season to try to increase conversions on you’re eCommerce website – setup social logins for yourself.
