A couple of days ago I had written a post titled Grammar Matters, Atleast to Bing; a post discussing Duane Forrester’s own post on the Bing Webmaster Blog that having poorly written content with poor grammar will have a negative impact on your search rankings within Bing. I had even posted about it on Rapid Purple’s facebook page – which sparked a quick mention from a few members that Google really needs to catch up with this.
Yesterday Google’s Matt Cutts posted a new video answering the question “
Should I focus on clarity or jargon when writing content?“. Now this isn’t quiet what I was hoping for – and it doesn’t really help any of us who are looking for something more grammatically correct to read online – but it is a good step in the right direction.
Matt Cutts explains how being overly technical in your writing isn’t necessarily the best thing. Depending on the target market you have – your goal as a writer is to write in such a way so as to attract the interest of the majority of the readers; not a small percentage of them. Matt Cutts mentions the idea of reading your content out load before publishing it – and this is something that can help solve both problems – the overly technical post and the grammatically incorrect post. Reading your content out loud to yourself should give you a good idea about what it’s going to sound like to someone else. Pay attention to the times you pause when reading and make sure your content’s punctuation requires your reader to do the same. In the end you’ll have a post that is easily readable and thus more enjoyable by a much larger audience.
Matt Cutts is one of the versatile men on the Google right now and i love to read his articles since it gives me a huge knowledge about the new developments in SEO.
