[/frame]Everyone already knows – news about his death spread around the world quicker than a wildfire. It was a feeling that many of us will never forget. For me – it happened on the train ride home from the office, as I updated my Blackberry News Feeds and saw it. Gizmodo’s post – Steve Jobs is Dead. I froze – well as frozen as I could get while already sitting down anyway. In the back of my head I expected this – but not so suddenly, not so quickly. His resignation in August settled down the idea in my head that he knew his time was coming due – but then I thought this is Steve – he’ll make it. He didn’t – and it took a few minutes for that fact to settle in.
A world without Steve Jobs. Suddenly everything seemed gray and boring – it was a nice and clear night outside – but it felt like a rainy day in London. I sat there, thinking of my first iPod – the one that still sits there permanently on a charging dock because if I were to ever take it off the battery would die within minutes. I thought back to Quicktime, to all the Pixar movies, to the first time I purchased something from the Apple store. I smiled.
Let me get one thing out there, I am a Windows fan & an even bigger Blackberry fanatic – and as such I often hate on Apple products; however I am well aware of the technological advances that Apple has made – and how those advances have pushed some of my favorite companies to create products in a way they never would have before. In fact – I have a 27″ iMac sitting right next to my PC at the office. I hold a-lot of respect for Steve for his business and marketing genius and his overall outlook on the world. I am well aware that we have lost something great as a society. We have lost someone who has taken us beyond anything we’ve ever thought of. We have lost a modern day icon.
RIP Steve Jobs, 1955 – 2011
