Unfortunately Winamp has announced that, starting December 20 2013, the site and associated cloud services will no longer be available to the public. What is even worse is that the longstanding media player will also be pulled from winamp.com. For many of us – especially myself, this is quiet a sad moment.

See I have loved Winamp for a very long time. In-fact it was the first media player I had used. I still fondly remember discovering it on an old computer while visiting relatives in Russia and being super intrigued by it’s classic equalizer display. I think I sat there for at least an hour playing around with the settings and watching the display break down the beats and sounds.

Fast forward a few years, and Winamp had become a living and breathing thing on my desktop. Actually with the progress of the various themes that were available for it – at times it looked like a living and breathing thing. I dug back into my old image archives and was able to find one screenshot of my old desktop from 2004:

Winamp, I will surely miss you. For those of you who have never had the pleasure of using Winamp, the media player will still be available to download until December 20 from the official site and, afterwards, from other, unofficial, sources. Farewell dear friend.
