This week we have another great question in the Google webmaster forums where Ashish from India asks “How does Google determine quality content if there aren’t alot of links to a post?“. Matt Cutts explains that at that point what the search engine has to go by is the actual text that is on the page. So this is where Google starts to look for the specific keywords that you are mentioning to gauge the appropriate terms to rank your page for. Cutts does make a great point to explain that continuously adding a keyword into your content isn’t the way to go about this. Keywords get less and less of a “value” associated to them the more they get repeated within a single page; and at a certain point you run the risk of being guilty of keyword stuffing which will hurt your rankings rather than help them. Certain other factors will play in also – such as the overall rank of a domain name the page is on.
