Ever wondered just how far your websites data has to travel to get to you? Just how many miles exists between where you’re website is, and where you are? There’s a really cool tool out there from the folks behind IP-Address.com which calculates the exact distance between two different hosts.
Now there’s a number of things you can do with this data. The tool will default to your local IP address as the origin – so you an then input your website as the destination host – and get a pretty good idea of the distance between you and you’re website.
If you are shopping around for a new web host, and you know the server IP of the new host, you can check the distance between your current host and the new one. Local businesses may prefer to have their websites hosted closer to their target market.
The tool even goes as far as to give you some travel times, should you wish to traverse the distance yourself.
