According to an announcement late last week, Cloud hosting provider Linode has donated 420 servers valued at $1.2 million to the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in an effort to support research and career development for their students. Being that Rapid Purple is New York based – this is pretty exciting news since NJIT is a short drive away for any NYC resident and this will surely help the webmasters of tomorrow.

Giving back to higher is a smart thing to do. Helping colleges and universities grow and enable smarter, more capable students is something we all benefit from as a community and we are proud to be a part of that,” Linode CEO Christopher Aker said in a statement. “Another positive outcome of the ITWP is creating a win-win for all parties involved. IT students receive a better education; institutions, like NJIT, improve their computational capacity and attract ambitious students; and the IT industry gets better-prepared candidates for employment.

The first benefactor of the donation is NJIT’s Cryptography and Telecommunications Laboratory, which provides students the means to conduct research and experiments in cryptography, computer security, and telecommunications network.
