Did you notice lately that your Google homepage seems to have reverted back to the old black/grey navigation bar design? Google first changed to this design back in June of 2011 and since then has upgraded to a cleaner navigational design. The current Google look and functionality relies on the user having an up-to-date modern browser installed on their system – which sadly isn’t always the case.

So if your running an older browser – Google just downgraded you back to 2011. It’s not a bug, and it’s not anything you did. Well – it’s more something you didn’t do.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the reports. I want to assure you this isn’t a bug, it’s working as intended.

We’re continually making improvements to Search, so we can only provide limited support for some outdated browsers. We encourage everyone to make the free upgrade to modern browsers — they’re more secure and provide a better web experience overall.

Thanks,
nealem

You can bypass this by upgrading to a modern browser, or just live with an older version of Google – you’re already dealing with an old browser.
