As the new TLD’s that ICANN has released are slowly gaining in popularity – the entertainment sector is doing their part to help push the popularity of these new domain name extensions. The Hunger Games movie series has became the first to utilize the .movie domain name when they launched their brand new website located at TheHungerGames.movie.

Jeff Davidoff, chief marketing officer for Donuts who is responsible for 165 of the new TLDs, said the company reached out directly to a number of movie studios to see if one would introduce the dot-movie domain name to the world.

“We’re on this mission to make these new not-com choices the new normal. It’s the moments when they’re used in the most pop culture way that are really going to make this a reality.”

According to Donuts, 60 percent of all domain names in the world are non-dot-com domain names, and a new non-dot-com domain name is registered every 10 seconds. Have you started using a non-dot-com domain name for your business or website yet? If so – share it in the comments below! Shameless self promotion!
