This is going to be quiet the busy weekend for the team over at Dream Host as they complete their roll-out of Ubuntu 12.04 Precise to the final 187 shared web servers starting this Saturday, November 8th. While the total estimated maintenance time is set for 6 hours, Dream Host expects most servers to only really see about 45 minutes of down time. A large part of the maintenance window is set aside for testing all of the servers post-upgrade to ensure everything is in order.

Those of you on one of the 187 servers mentioned above should take note of a few things. First off if you are running Ruby or Python applications you should ensure that your applications are not linking to static versions of any required libraries, as library versions will change once the upgrade is complete. Furthermore those of you coming from a Debian server, or using custom PHP.ini files will want to make sure you upgrade your custom files as per the instructions here.
Otherwise make a backup before November 8th, and hang tight through the downtime.
