For the first time in a very, VERYVERY long time there have been more legitimate emails sent out then there have been spam emails sent out. For anyone who remembers spending hours sorting their various inboxes from spam email in the past years – this should be extremely exciting news. The information is based on Symantec’s latest Intelligence Report which shows that in June 2015, out of the 704 billion email messages that Symantec analyzed – only 353 billion were spam. That means that 50.3% were real, legitimate emails, and that’s great news. In June of 2009, for example, 6.3 trillion email messages were analyzed and 5.7 trillion of them ended up being spam.

Now while this is AWESOME news – this doesn’t mean that spammers and scammers have disappeared. Sadly this just means they have moved on to other mediums – utilizing ransom-ware and malware-based attacks.

Alas it is great to expect less spam when you load up your inbox – and we should at least be thankful for that.
