There’s a bit of a global ban on cryptocurrency related advertisements right now. Google, Twitter, and Apple have all banned cryptocurrency ads across all of their platforms. Facebook did the same thing at the start of 2018 – however they always said there were plans to revisit this ban in the future. Luckily the future is now as Facebook have announced a revised policy to allow ads that promote cryptocurrency and related content.

This isn’t an entire lift on the ban however. No – that would likely cause utter chaos on the Facebook ad network. Cryptocurrency ads that promote ICO’s or crypto-focused binary options are still banned from Facebook Ads. Furthermore – you need to become a pre-approved advertiser to be able to run an cryptocurrency ads at all. To do so you must submit an application to help Facebook assess your eligibility.

In the last few months, we’ve looked at the best way to refine this policy — to allow some ads while also working to ensure that they’re safe. So starting June 26, we’ll be updating our policy to allow ads that promote cryptocurrency and related content from pre-approved advertisers. But we’ll continue to prohibit ads that promote binary options and initial coin offerings.

The new application process is a welcome alternative to the full-out ban that is currently in-effect on Google, Twitter and Apple. At least it brings a bit of auditing to the cryptocurrency field, hopefully helping to protect the general public from spammy ads.

Furthermore the new policy is amazing news for marketers since it helps to maintain a cleaner palette for actual advertisers to work within. Just imagine if everyone were allowed to run cryptocurrency ads, people would be bombarded with flashy ads advertising “FREE COINS”, and amazing returns in just days!
