Even though Snapchat is considered to be the favorite social network for the young, the platform has not been seeing a whole lot of use by online marketers. According to a recent report by the Social Media Examiner, which is based on the replies of 5700 marketing professionals, Snapchat was used by a mere 7% of them in the first quarter of 2017. This places it behind, literally, everyone else. Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, and Pinterest.

Statista put together an chart to showcase just how far behind Snapchat is:

Social Media Platforms Used By Marketers in 2017 / Snapchat Shows 7%

Considering that Snapchat is significantly newer than most of its competition, we have to cut it some slack. Snapchat marketing is still developing, and most business owners aren’t aware of it yet. Furthermore, the social network hasn’t had all of it’s tools fully developed yet to let marketers make the most of it. For example, setting up custom geofilters is a great way for businesses of all sizes to incorporate Snapchat into their online presence marketing. Unfortunately this process was extremely manual in the past, requiring the use of image editing software and a manual submission process. I can see how these past restrictions may have limited the opportunity to setup these geofilters. Luckily just last week Snapchat released an update which simplified the entire process.

And so, as more and more people get educated about Snapchat marketing – the numbers on this report will change. Considering that the USA has 60 million registered users,  – especially when there are 60 million people in North America alone using it, several times a day.
